Father, Forgive them

And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. (Luke 23:33, 34 KJV)
Can you visualize the passion Christ put into the statement, Father, forgive them? He had just been beaten beyond recognition. He endured the mocking, spitting and jokes. He stood silently as the people He formed with love lied about Him and falsely accused Him. He allowed them to burden Him with a rugged cross as He painfully made His way to His death. He suffered as they nailed His hands and feet to the cross and hung there as the guards mocked Him. while we would have spoken out in anger, our Lord spoke out in kindness, He begged His Father to forgive those who we’re crucifying Him. through all the injustices, Christ still saw these people with love.
As Christians many times we can be guilty of failing to forgive others. sometimes we say we forgive but we keep the hurt in our hearts. God did not have to forgive us, and yet He did willingly. He lovingly and happily offered you forgiveness! He suffered and died so that He could give us forgiveness. We should be as eager to forgive others as God was to forgive us.
If Christ could see those who crucified Him and forgive them, can’t you forgive those who have wronged you? Don’t forgive them because they deserve it or because you feel like it; do it because you love God-because He has forgiven you!!
